Evaluation of detection of positive blood cultures by pH changes.
نویسندگان
چکیده
We observed that the pH of positive blood culture broths was significantly lower than that of negative broths. However, significantly pH changes were generally not observed for subculture-positive, macroscopically negative blood culture broths. Therefore, although the pH of most positive blood culture broths was reduced significantly, this change was generally not useful for the early detection of positive cultures.

In this study, counter immunoelectrophoresis (CIE) and latex agglutination (LA) were employed to evaluate rapid detection of streptococcus group B (GBS) specific antigens in sera, urines, CSF and patient's blood cultures of infants suspected of septicemia and meningitidis. Out of 530 specimens which were investigated 73 blood cultures were found to be positive, including 4 (5.5%) specimens from...
متن کاملEvaluation of a PCR technique in blood samples of suspicious cas-es to systemic salmonella infections in Aliasghar children hospital, Tehran
Background and Objective: Typhoid fever is still a major health problem for which there are limited options for the diagnosis. Current diagnostic methods are time consuming with undesirable sensitivity. Among newer diagnostic methods, PCR is attractive and could be potentially very helpful in developing countries where systemic salmonella infections are endemic among children but needs to be in...
متن کاملتشخیص بروسلوز با استفاده از سیستم کشت خون BACTECو تائید نتایج آن با PCR
Abstract: Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonotic diseases in Iran. Growth of Brucella is slow and blood cultures of these bacteria are time-consuming via classical methods. We try to evaluate BACTEC 9120 system capacity in order to detect of bacteremia due to Brucella spp and to confirm isolated bacteria by PCR. Blood culture sample of 102 suspected patients evaluated by BACTEC 9120 sys...
متن کاملEvaluation of CD64 Expression on Peripheral Blood Neutrophils for Early Detection of Neonatal Sepsis
Background: Neonatal sepsis is a life-threatening disease with an incidence of 1 to 10 per 1000 live births and a mortality rate of 15% to 50%. The clinical signs are non-specific and indistinguishable from those caused by a variety of neonatal noninfectious disorders. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the importance of CD64 expression (FcgRI), a neutrophil surface marker, in ea...
متن کاملEvaluation of the correlation between fetal well being tests with APGAR score and PH of umbilical artery in high risk pregnant women
Introduction: Acidosis-hypoxic phenomenon is a valid indicator to determine fetal distress and is defined by measuring the blood pH of umblical cord. None of the present screening tests for evaluation of pregnant mothers have acceptable clinical accuracy to assess fetal acidosis. We decided to evaluate the relationship between fetal well being tests Non-Stress Test (NST), Oxytocin Challenge Tes...
